Aylia's parents were from Eorzea. Her father is from Coerthas and hated the war. Her mother is from Gridania who had terrible parents. Because of this, they ran away together and decided to be explorers. About a year and half after they began traveling, the couple found out they were pregnant with Aylia. Her parents then decided to stay put for a bit. Unfortunately they happened to be in Dalmasca at the time. The year she was born was the year the Empire came and took over Dalmasca. They were stuck.
When Aylia was 15, reports of rebel activity in her small village reached the Empire and they arrived to raze the village. Aylia was then seperated from her parents.
Her parents had changed over the years and reminisced fondly about Eorzea, so Aylia decided to travel to their homeland in hopes to find them. She traveled to the port city of Valnain and snuck aboard a ship headed to Thavnair, then, once there, another ship to Eorzea. Unfortunately the second ship's captian found her aboard and was going to throw her overboard when a massive storm hit. The storm broke the ship apart. Aylia survived and washed ashore near Eastern Thanalan. She was found by an elderly Lalafell couple who took her, but were killed by bandits one day. Aylia went to the town but no one was willing to do anything about the bandits. Those bandits (a small, weak group) were her first kills. (Her father had taught her the lance and her mother taught her conjury. But she was a natural with the bow.)
After that, she knew she had to find her parents. On her way to Gridania, lost and hungry, a small seeker of the sun miqo'te tribe found her. With them she learned about Azeyma, who she took as her patron. She stayed with them for about a year until their Nuhn (one of the rare two letter Nuhns) decided to move them too close to a dangerous place. The tribe was mostly wiped out. Fearing she was bad luck, she stayed on her own for a few years after that.
Eventaully she made her way to Gridania, where she met her half sister, who hated her, and her grandparents, who refused to acknowledge her. She tried going to Ishgard, who turned her away at the Gates of Judgement. Finally, at Camp Dragonhead, a "kind" knight told her about "adventuring" (doing things for people for cheap coin). As a way to keep herself alive she decided to become an "adventurer". It was horrid work that lead her to fighting at Carteneau. She was not a "Warrior of Light" at the time but got teleported away by Louisoix by simple proximity.
Aylia found herself completely disoriented. She recovered in a small village at the border of the South Shroud for a few days. When she found out 5 years having past, she worried for her family in Gridania (she cared despite their hate). She took a carriage with a hyur and two younger, white-haired elezen. The rest is history.
Aylia was NOT happy to find out she had to register to be a proper adventurer.
It took until after Endwalker to be reunited with her parents.
