Everyone! I am suffering from tank anxiety! I need your advise lol. Half of me is like screw it, just go for it! And the other half is like, don’t bother it will only stress you out. I enjoy pally. I have it at 52 right now but I know it only gets tougher moving up. Also, what is the role of an off tank during 8 man content? Thanks beautiful residents of Eorzea!
Your anxiety due to lack of experience, just tank more building up confidence.
Knowing each of your tank skills/actions is very important.
Playing DPS and especially healer helps, watch and learn from other tanks what you should and shouldn't do, it basically a free of charge tanking learning course!
It depends on the 8 man content, there is no exact role for off tank.
But mostly dealing with adds, switching with main tank for vulnerable stacks, stun or add Reprisal at a particular time, etc.
I still have some, but Lil Cairn is right about a thing: you need to tank more in order to build confidence + going as DPS/Heal helps.
If you can have friends in your party before queuing helps a lot too. I only tank with at least a friend in the party to ease my anxiety. If you're VERY anxious, go unsynch first to know what to expect then do it synch.
As for your 2nd question, every tank in FFXIV can either main tank or off tank, so it's very as you wish.
Thanks to you both for the replies! I started as a healer with my character so I have pretty good experience on how that feels. Yes I for sure will just tank more then! I used to feel kinda the same with healer and that did eventually fade. I guess tank is just a bit more scary for me as the party usually sees you as the leader and assume you know the dungeon when you start.
