The samurai Jin Mitsurugi (known as Jin "Heavensblade" in the west) was born to the Mitsurugi samurai clan in Bukyo, the bakufu capital of Hingashi. As a youth, he studied art, language, and etiquette, and was primed to enter service to the bakufu government.

However, Jin had a passion for the sword and misliked the political games played within his clan, as well as the shackles of nobility. He took to heart the teachings of the man who inspired him to master the sword for the sake of others, and found that his nation wanted for compassion.

After witnessing a starshower as a boy, Jin experienced visions that would later lead him to leave his homeland and, eventually, come to the distant western shores of Eorzea. Now he wanders the land as an adventurer and ronin, helping those he meets as he travels.
