Death is but crossing the world, as friends do the seas; they live in one another still. For they must needs be present, that love and live in that which is omnipresent. In this divine glass, they see face to face; and their converse is free, as well as pure. This is the comfort of friends, that though they may be said to die, yet their friendship and society are, in the best sense, ever present, because immortal.
~William Penn, More Fruits of Solitude
Two months ago I found myself exactly where I stand now. However this time in Heavenward rather than A Realm Reborn.
I am now standing on the edge of Heavensward and am preparing to dive head first into the finale, and as before am finding myself a bit whimsical. All things must pass, I know, but one can't help but miss the familiar once it lay behind you.
Heavensward did not take me as long to complete as A Realm Reborn, not due to a lack of content rather it was due to the fact that unlike when I started Final Fantasy XIV and my time was consumed with other things I instead devoted myself to fully entrenching into the experience and the effort was well worthwhile.
Leveling all of the jobs together as one for the storylines in two level jumps for each section of story was extremely satisfying. It give me a sense of accomplishment and completion. I even cleared all the vista points and attuned in all of the Heavensward areas for flying, though admittedly it was far easier to get the vista's in Heavensward than it was in A Realm Reborn. (of which I did ARR's vista's at the intended level with no flying)
Heavensward itself is to me a melancholy story at its core; A story of the lost and the broken seeking ground to stand on and finding those they would seek to side with are all haunted by lies, broken promises, and shattered dreams. Friends and Comrades pushed to the brink and beyond never knowing if what they are fighting for is real....or even possible.
It is an Amazing story.
Please do not misunderstand me; it did have its truly silly moments....
.....oh the things I've seen....
As with A Realm Reborn, Heavensward has moments of Triumph and Heroism that leave your punching the air in victory. However it also has many moments in which you feel as if you had just been punched in the heart....
So much happened in such a short amount of time, and I am sure before I am done with the finale there will be much much more. The space between A Realm Reborn and Heavensward was filled to bursting with story that in and of itself could fill an expansion; I am prepared for something similar on the horizon.
Stormblood is coming closer; I am looking forward to it, though I have heard many voice their dislike for it. I intend to see the measure of it myself. A long road to the East; Sounds charming to me.
But I shall cross that bridge when I get there.
As for now, the finale awaits!
