[E1S] The Hell Tank at the Gates of Paradise

The Journey into Savage 5
A casual scrub's raiding misadventures

Mechanics spoilers for Eden's Gate: Resurrection (Savage) follow!

I am on a journey. A journey to see how far I can go. A lot has happened in the 4 months since my inconclusive encounter with Midgardsormr. Now, it's time to step on the road once more.

When I first challenged Alphascape in March, it was many months after the raids were released. Most raiders had long since cleared, and Savage was a lonely, empty road. This time round, things are different! Even in the middle of a workday, PF is lively with over a dozen parties recruiting (there were even a few clear parties). I jumped into the first fresh learning party I could find. Most of us were completely new. Some already knew some of the early mechanics from watching streamers play. We had to figure out strategy on the fly.

Damage felt very heavy and we were repeatedly being blasted down to under 40% by powerful raidwide attacks. The battle felt a lot more fast-paced than O9S, with mechanics coming out in rapid succession and little room for hesitation and error. As is standard for Savage, most attacks have no telegraph. You learn by trial and error where to stand.

Several parts involve passing a buff around. I really dislike tether and buff passing mechanics (Arcane Bulwark, Titania tethers etc.) as they do not play well with my high latency of around 220ms. However, surprisingly this time the buff seemed fairly responsive and there were no issues with it snapping onto the wrong person. Here a DPS is passing me this "Prey" marker. Later on there is a marker that I have to pass to the DPS.

SE has made a lot of mechanics that require both tanks to support each other. For example, the boss's tankbuster is Spear of Paradise, and it deals 2 separate hits. The 1st hit applies vuln up, which makes the 2nd hit one-shot. The OT must provoke while the ability is being cast, so that the boss hits the MT with the 1st hit, then turns to hit the OT (its new target) with the 2nd hit. Both tanks must pop cooldowns.

One of the more tricky phases is Dimension Shift -> Paradise Lost. Aoe puddles repeatedly spawn under the feet of 4 party members 5 times, then the 8 orbs around the room each shoot a line aoe at the closest player. Getting hit by 2 beams means death. The strategy we agreed on was to assign 1 orb to each player. Move as a group and bait the puddles clockwise around the boss, then all split up and go to our orbs, standing on the outside to point the beams away from each other. It sounds simple in theory, but in practice it was fairly messy with the occasional death.

The add phase is a moderate DPS check requiring about 51k raid dps to clear - the same as Titania EX. Adds do not buff each other, but they do have attacks that cleave. I always interrupted Mana Boost everytime the adds used it. I don't know what it does and don't want to find out, lol.

The next obstacle is a series of mechanics after the ultimate requiring the party to stack in groups of 4, then 2, then culminating in a 2nd Delta Attack where non-tanks must stack and tanks stand apart from the group and each other.

The furthest we got was this crazy phase, where 4 meteors spawn and 4 orbs shoot rotating lasers at players. I have no idea what the strategy is here. Everytime we got to this part we were quickly wiped out!

Nobody got salty. After each wipes, the most knowledgeable would ask if there was any confusion, and people would clarify strategy.

After almost 90 minutes of practice, the party disbanded and I decided to call it a day. I was starting to lose focus, making more mistakes and doing less dps. Right now, I understand all the mechanics up to the 1st set of meteors. I will read notes from raiders who have cleared and look at my own footage again, then make another attempt tomorrow to try and get past meteors. I do not want to burn myself out by playing for long hours every day.

I have 6 months to clear 4 bosses. As long as we are in PF, fighting and learning, the journey is not over.

Don't get bitter, just get better! Let's clear together next time!

Good job Siggy, keep pushing I'm sure the clear will come soon. I'm ungodly jealous you got to go in already!

Louisoix (Chaos)

I also made it to the crazy phase! I'm glad I'm not the only one struggling on the first raid!
These raids certainly seem a lot harder and fiddly then ShB extreme trials...
And mana boast increases the damage of the adds, according to my friend.
I'm sure you'll be able to clear the first raid in no time!!!

Masamune (Mana)

Yeah, the meteor phase I was like 'WTF!', lol!
Overall, fun fight.

I cleared! Thanks Panda and Ryoko for your encouragement! Keep fighting, I am sure you will get your clears soon too!

Totally agreed, Cairn! I love it a lot more than Chaos for sure. It feels so active and frentic. I do not even mind the long animation for the ultimate. My party complained but I thought it was a good time to rest my fingers lol.
