Yes people, forget Blitz Ball! The newest sport in the FF14 world, Ball-afell, made its debut last night and it was WILD! ;p
And what IS Ball-afell you ask? Well people, take one Lalafell, stick it in an arena with 2 teams of 2 blue mages armed with spell 98. Then go to town trying to push the poor Lala with the water spell into a goal at either end of the arena. Two out of three matches wins. Any other blue spell is legal to use also, so think up crazy ways to have the spells available help you win.
This happened last night on Adamantoise at a FC house which had their front yard converted into an arena for the matches. It drew a large crowd and was even televised on twitch as a overhead view of the matches with the Lala marked to follow it easily around the arena as it got pushed.
Nine teams signed up to participate and the whole thing took about a hour and a half starting at 10 pm EST. The matches were crazy wild with some getting easy goals and some matches taking a good 5 minutes to finish.
Note, the water spell not only pushes the Ball-afell around, but can also push anyone else too if they get caught in it, so teams were pushing each other around like crazy trying to put them out of position for shots. It was wacky uncontrolled chaos, and whoever thought this crazy thing up is a genius.
The organizers said there would be another tournament sometime in the future. Maybe next time I will actually sign up for it if I can convince a certain someone to be my partner.
