Anna's M.I.N.E adventures: Struggling with Nael

Public

I am going to start this with a question. Do you ever feel like something in the game is just too much for you no matter how much you try to accomplish it?

There are many things in the game this can apply to, but this question for me applies to the current Coils instance I am on, Nael.

Last week I REALLY thought we would get the clear on her but it just did NOT happen no matter how hard we tried. There were many reasons for this, but I fear one of the biggest was, well......me.

I am not going to sugar coat it, I am struggling with this. So far, this instance is the hardest thing yet I have done in the game and I fear it just might be a little too much for my skills and abilities. This I believe was the 5th or 6th week on Nael, I kind of lost track we have been doing her so much. Each week we have learned a little more of her 5 phases until we saw them all. We have gotten her down to 3%. But yet, we just cannot get our act totally together to consistently do the mechanics properly to win the fight.

I assure you, I am not the only one struggling with this. Everyone is messing up here and there, but I seem to be doing it more often than any of the others. And you know what the really bad part is? It is just REALLY stupid mistakes that get me killed!

Places where I know the mechanics I still die because of poor positioning, poor timing, and poor judgment. It honestly is a crapshoot sometimes if I will suddenly remember that, oh, DON'T stand there, move HERE! Also, it does NOT help that I am one of the 2 healers, so if I fall the party is in BIG trouble.

I was talking with Panda about this tonight on the linkshell and he said, it happens to some people and it really depends on the group if they will understand or decide to replace you.

Honestly, if they DID replace me with someone more skilled I would not blame them. I mean I know I can catch up and eventually learn, but I don't think they are THAT patient. Funny thing is though that it is old and dead content, so there is really no reason to be good at it since no one does it anymore other than for the challenge.

Well, we will see what happens next weekend. I will study the videos and guide to this to see if I can improve, but I don't really know if they will help. It's not a 'mechanics' issue cause I KNOW what needs to be done. It's a 'positioning' issue of misjudging where I am currently at at the time the said mechanics go off. THAT takes actual practice.

Will I feel bad if I get 'carried' to the clear? Nope. I know the most of the fight pretty well up until the last part, and after 6 weeks of 'doing' it, I will feel I earned it even IF RNG blesses me with not too much to worry about.

And if it goes the other way and they decide to replace me? Well, I will feel bad, but it will be what it is. Plus it will be kind of nice to have my Sunday evenings free again. ;-)

Nael is not that bad as long as you have someone good at marking divebombs and calling out the out/in stuff. Unless you're doing savage, which I haven't done but I don't think it's too different from the regular one.

Oh our teacher is VERY good and goes into great detail on mechanics so like I said I know WHAT to do. It is the positioning and timing I am sucking at, which is really annoying me.

As for the dive bombs, we have the 1 and 2, 3 and 4 markers up for that and run where necessary.

We also have calls for the fire/lightening debuffs and know where to stand behind/front/outside depending on who has what when, plus spread for the white markers and gravity wells.

Yeah most of that sounds alien to me. I forgot it all since I haven't done T9 since ARR. I think I only cleared it once anyways. My old ARR FC was trying to do FCoB and we did a pass of 1-9 just for those like myself who hadn't cleared all of it.

None of my friends ever wanted to do things synced which is sad because FCoB is the best raid tier in the game still and Thordan/Ramuh/Ifrit are my favorite EXs. Doing everything unsynced takes the fun out of it.
