Day 139: Part 2

Public
Part 2:

"Miss Annabel," a voice called to her, Annabel didn't answer. "Miss Annabel", the voice called again, "are you ok? It's over."

Blinking, Annabel struggled to recover her thoughts, focus in front of her. As the haze cleared, Annabel saw an odd sight. Young Minnie was still there, but she was......different. She had totally changed. Gone was the hair of spun gold, those too oddly blue eyes. In their place were normal brown eyes and hair of a coppery red. Otherwise Minfilia's hairstyle was the same, her face was the same, her height was the same, but yet to Annabel, she felt very.....different.

"Are.....Are you ok," Annabel finally asked showing concern on her face, Minfilia, is it you? or is it......you.......Minnie?" She was kind of afraid to find out the answer.

The young girl smiled, her brown eyes tearful. "Annabel's it's.......both of us.... I think. Don't worry, it's ok, everything went fine, I'M fine, REALLY!" She gave a little laugh and blinked away tears of joy as she twirled around. "It WORKED Annabel, it WORKED, I feel so.....different, I FEEL things, can sense things, all around me. Minfilia gave me what I needed, what WE need to win this fight. Oh Annabel, I can find the Lightwarden now for you!" She laughed again, "Oh, this is WONDERFUL!"

Annabel tried to smile, tried to be happy for the young girl, but for some reason she.....couldn't, not yet, she HAD to know, HAD to find out. "Minnie, what....happened with Minfilia? Is she......gone? Consumed?"

Young Minfilia stopped laughing and looked at Annabel, thoughtful, finally she spoke. "It was an odd feeling when we were together. We talked, in my mind we talked about many things. We talked about her past, my past, our future. We talked about you, about what you need to do to save all of us. We talked about the power the Crystal gave her, was giving to me. It seemed to take hours to me, but I guess it was all just merely moments to you."

Then Minfilia looked up and all around her, thinking, concentrating, then she turned back to Annabel.

She's gone Miss Annabel, I don't feel her anymore. There's no presence around me, no connection, other than what she left me. I guess she is.......gone".....

Annabel's heart stopped at those words, her breath caught, her mind not able to think. Minnie......gone? No....No....it CAN'T BE! Despite her efforts, tears began to well up in her eyes and she tried to blink them away. She can't cry in front of the girl, can't show her how she felt about that damn spirit.

"Miss Annabel...are you...ok?" Minfilia looked concerned.

Annabel quickly waved a hand away, "yes, yes, don't worry about me. It's just a bit of emotion seeing you are ok, I was REALLY worried you know."

Minfilia gave a laugh, "Oh Miss Annabel, don't worry, I'm perfectly fine, well except for the outward changes to me, but I'll get used to them. Please don't worry, I don't feel any ill effects from this, in fact I feel wonderful, like I can be REALLY useful now."

Annabel nodded, finally getting her emotions under control. "That's good, I can't wait to put them into practice, the sooner we find that thing the better. Ok," she said, feeling a bit more like her old self. "I guess we better get back to the others, they are probably fretting on what happened here, especially Thancred. They will be glad to see you safe and well." Annabel made a motion with her hands. "Why don't you head on without me. I need to get a few things done yet, I'll meet you all back at the track.”

At the mention of Thancred's name Minflila's smile changed to one of worry. "Oh, you're right! He's probably sick with worry about what happened! I'll head back there right away Miss Annabel, don't be long!"

With that the changed young girl left, leaving Annabel all alone with her thoughts.

"Oh Minnie," Annabel said aloud. "I'm soooo sorry you had to go through that, but I guess it was for the best. It sounds so odd to say this, but I think I'm really going to miss you...."

"Miss ME? Annabel, how so NOT like you."

Annabel jumped at the unexpected sound, crying out in fear and spinning in place to see what it was. To her astonished surprise, the spirit of Minflila floated in front of her, her light slightly dimmed but otherwise not much worse for wear.

"What?.....How?....You......MINNIE, WHAT the HELL HAPPENED? You're STILL here!"

Despite herself, a huge smile broke out on Annabel's face astonishing Minfilia in the process. The spirit was taken aback. She was NOT expecting this from Annabel, not at ALL, just WHAT had gotten into the silly girl? Even more surprising were the tears coming from those too perfect blue eyes of hers, Twelve, she's totally lost it, Minfilia thought, she couldn't possibly have been sad for me, could she?

Minfilia decided not to pursue Annabel's mood, she would explore this side of her 'friend' at a later time. Instead she simply said, "yes Annabel I am, does this surprise you?"

"Surprise me? Minnie, what do you THINK? We had NO idea WHAT would happen! Honestly I thought one of you would end up taking complete control of the other!" Annabel's tears had stopped and she had resorted to her old self. To Minfilia's surprise, this was actually a little.....comforting. "and here I was all sad for you and everything! UGH, I SHOULD have known it was ALL a crock, you just wanted sympathy from me, ADMIT it!"

Minfilia just sighed, "Yes Annabel, I did this WHOLE thing with my former younger self JUST to piss you off and make you feel sorry for me." She then did an unexpected thing and smiled back at the silly Blonde. "Annabel......thank you."

This caught Annabel in mid tirade and shut her up, giving her a look of confusion instead. "Thank you? For what?"

"For caring you silly Blonde ditz. Look, never mind, you wanted to find out what happened, well I'll tell you. When we merged we became one person, one 'Minfilia' so to speak. We were one but our minds weren't. While together, I explained to her how my power worked, gave instruction on how to use it. We also 'talked' about many different things, helped her sort stuff out so to speak."

"You mean with Thancred," Annabel interrupted. Don't give me that look, I KNOW he came up."

Minfilia looked a bit annoyed. "It's none of your business Annabel, but yes, he was one of the things we talked about, and you also."

"ME?" Now it was Annabel's turn to look annoyed. "Well it BETTER have been all GOOD things, after all, I AM the one saving all your asses."

Minfilia just gave a sly smile which caused Annabel to huff in annoyance.

"But anyway," she continued. "After our long talk, I did a little magic of my own. I transferred some of my essence to her, my power so she would be able to do what was needed. It drained me and also changed her as you obviously saw. I am not as powerful as I once was as some of it is a part of her now. But unfortunately, OR some would say fortunate, Minfilia lost her connection to me. We are no longer one, no longer the same person. She can no longer sense me or feel me. She is in all practical purposes a totally separate person able to live her own life however she sees fit."

Annabel mulled over that for a moment, then said, "does this mean there will be no more young Minnies?"

"Well Annabel, do you think there would ever be a NEED for anymore? With most of the lightwardens gone, this world soon will be saved. I have no doubt you will be able to defeat the last two with Minf..."

Minfilia stopped talking, then said, "Oh, I probably should not call her that anymore, it's not who she is. I hope she'll choose a new name soon, one that fits her well."

Annabel piped up, "I'll think of one! I bet I can come up with a great name, hmmmmmm, lets see......"

"Annabel, don't butt in, the LAST thing she needs is some silly name coming from YOUR silly head."

"Oh PLEASE," Annabel retorted, ANY name would be better than "Minfilia", Gods that is a mouthful, which is why I shorten it to Minnie!"

"It's TWO letters shorter you silly ditz! Twelve, why I put up with that name I'll NEVER know."

"Yes," Annabel shot back. She started ticking off fingers as she spoke. "It's shorter to write, easier to spell, easier to....."

"Ok I am OUT of here," Minfilia interrupted. A little of you goes a LONG way dear."

As Minfilia floated into the air she turned back to look at her charge, her annoyance, and her....friend. Gods help me, am I ACTUALLY getting used to her? "You take care Annabel", she called back, "and know I will be there when you need me."

Before she popped out, Minfilia heard that familiar melodious whine and in spite of herself, smiled. "REALLY Minnie? Do you HAVE to threaten me like that?"

:O :O :O

Minfillia performed cell division and gave the half of her with the superpowers to Ryne!

Well, the mechanics aside, I think the real takeaway from this entry is Annabel's relationship with Minfillia.

I guess they are like annoying friends or roommates, you bicker when you are together and call each other names, but deep down you care for each other. Looking back, Minnie being one of the first people Annabel met in the strange, foreign land of Eorzea, I guess that makes sense.

While it was less dramatic than some of the other entries, I enjoyed this one and thought it was a good conclusion to the whole Minnie arc! While Minnie being gone forever would be a really poignant moment, in the long term, it's probably more fun to read about their squabbling, lol.
